So, the 2021 Oscar nominations are out, announced in a broadcast by husband and wife Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra, recently seen in “The White Tiger” – here nominated for a screenplay award.
“Mank” leads the nominations by some margin with ten. But, again, its a nicely diverse bunch of nominations, but not quite as ‘out there’ as the BAFTAs. It’s great to see two of the five directors nominated as female. But – once again – no female composers in the Best Score category. And although nominated for two ‘art’ awards, I’m sorry that my favourite film of 2020 – “Emma” – has not had greater recognition.
As for the BAFTAs though, I have some serious digging to do to watch a greater percentage of these movies before the Oscars are announced on the 26th April: so far I’ve only seen TWO out of the EIGHT movies nominated for Best Picture.
Here is the list of nominations… as for the BAFTA’s, I have ordered these in the order that they are of the most personal interest to me.
