One Mann's Movies

Film reviews – for the discerning reader

About

bond

Hi – I’m Bob Mann (aka “The Fad”). I’m 57 and living in Romsey in the UK.  (Yes, that’s right… I’m old enough to have seen “Star Wars” when it FIRST came out!).

I have had a lifelong love of cinema since my mum took me to see Mary Poppins at the age of four… and then the next day… and then the next day….   My “Film Reviews” on this site are my own personal views on films seen at the cinema from 2013 onwards.  “DVD Reviews” are reviews of recent films that slipped through the net at the cinema… they are a combination of DVD viewings and airline showings!

Watch out for my “Films of the Year” posts in January and the Oscar/BAFTA “Will Win/Should Win” posts in February.

In terms of film ratings, they are measured in ‘Fads’ with one Fad (F) being truly abysmal and Five Fads (FFFFF) being extremely rarely bestowed!

Note that if you want to “Follow the Fad” and receive future posts automatically as they are posted, just fill in your email address in the box on the home page as shown in the screenshot below.

  1. Sorry, I didn’t know where else to post this.

    Ready Player One review:

“Almost unrecognizable in the role is the woman of the hour Letitia Wright (“Black Panther“, “Thor: Ragnarok“) as Wade’s inventor friend Reb.”

That was not Letitia Wright, it was Lena Waithe from the Netflix series “Master of None.”

    1. Thanks so much for pointing that out… my bad! No wonder she was unrecognisable! Letitia Wright is in the cast, but clearly not in that role. I’ll edit the post.

      1. Actually, I was partially wrong too. Lena Waithe is the inventor but her character is named Aech/ Helen. Letitia Wright has a character named Reb but she is a background character at the safe house dropping off groceries. I had no idea Letitia Wright was in this movie. Oops.

      2. Ha! Thanks for the point out to Letitia Wright – definitely want to see this one again so will look out for her when I do. Thanks again for commenting. (I must change my theme to make commenting on the actual posts easier!)

  2. Looking forward to reading more of your reviews. I found your review today of “Far Ftom the Madding Crowd,” the third version of this book-to-film treatment I’ve seen. Your title, X-rated for Sheep” made me bark madly with laughter. Pun intended. I like great writing.
I like watching films and UK telly programs as they are made available here.
You, therefore, were a boon of a find.
    All best!

  3. Thanks, Bob, for your movie reviews. You are fair, well-spoken, and you do not write with an arrogant attitude.

Please add my e-mail to your mailing list.

    Thanks,

    Dan Pence

    1. Well, thank-you Dan. That’s a really nice comment that’s made my day! There is a “Subscribe” area on the main review page to enter your email address to follow the blog, but I have done that for you so you should have received an email that you need to confirm. Thanks again.

  4. I just read your ex machina review on imdb. I’d love to get notified of new reviews you do. Is this the proper place to ask?

    1. Thanks Tim. There is an option on the front page to enter your email address, but perhaps it’s not obvious enough! (Will try to fix!) I have your email address from the post, so will sign you up now. Thanks for your interest!
